I understand that the best ideas to help local Maryland communities come from the people. That is why I am happy to offer my assistance to those seeking federal grants to serve their communities.
Grant Research
I am always pleased to hear about proposals to serve our communities. Books and materials on federal grants can be found in large public libraries like the Enoch Pratt Free Library at 400 Cathedral Street, Baltimore, MD 21201 (410) 396-5430. The library has an entire section devoted to these resources in the Social Science and History Department. Another helpful source is The Foundation Center at 1001 Connecticut Avenue, N.W. in Washington, D.C. 20036 (202) 331-1400.
The Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) is a government-wide compendium of federal programs, projects, services and activities which provide assistance or benefits to the American public. The catalog is published twice a year, in June and December, and is a basic reference source of federal programs. The catalog is available for purchase in hard copy, magnetic tape, diskettes or CD-ROM from the Federal Domestic Assistance Catalog Staff (MVS), General Services Administration, 300 7th Street, S.W., Suite 101, Washington, D.C. 20407 (202) 708-5126. You may also query the catalog online.
The web site of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) offers an excellent introduction to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance including an overview, description of types of assistance, explanation of program descriptions, and an appendix on developing and writing grant proposals. It also provides indexes by department, agency, program, subject, and recipients as well as links to notices in the Federal Register.
I can also send you an Information Pack from the Congressional Research Service (CRS.) This packet contains valuable information on government, foundation, and corporate grants, as well as a bibliography of resources. It also includes information on guides to writing grant proposals. If you are interested in a CRS Information Pack please write to my Baltimore office at the address below.
Grant Support
As a United States Senator I can help local organizations with federal grant proposals by sending a letter of support for the project. A letter of support is sent to the granting agency at the same time the proposal is submitted. If you are seeking a letter of support for your project, please send a brief description of your proposed project and a request for support to my Baltimore office at the address below.
