Mikulski Announces Final Congressional Approval of Federal Funds for Frostburg Sewer Project

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.), a member of the Senate Interior, Environment and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee, today announced congressional passage of the fiscal year 2010 Interior and Environment Conference Report, which includes funds in the federal checkbook for a critical sewer upgrade project in Frostburg.

“Upgrades to Frostburg’s water and sewer infrastructure are critical to public and environmental health, but the city can't do it on its own,” Senator Mikulski said. “This federal investment takes the burden off local taxpayers and creates and sustains jobs. I’ll continue to fight for federal funds in the checkbook for critical projects like this in Western Maryland.”

The funding bill includes $300,000 for the City of Frostburg in Allegany County for combined sewer overflow improvements. The City, which is under a judicial Consent Decree, is implementing a long term correction plan that requires separation of combined sanitary and storm water systems and replacement of sanitary sewers.

In the final step of the Appropriations process, the measure will now be sent to President Obama to be signed into law.
