Supporting Maryland's Transportation from Baltimore...
Senator Mikulski works to improve transportation for Baltimore. She has:
- Helps reduce traffic congestion and pollution by supporting expanded mass transit including:
- Increased capacity for double track light rail line. Secured over $20 million in federal funds for the project since 1998.
- Connecting MARC Camden Station and the MARC Penn Line/Amtrak Northeast Corridor, and building of midday MARC storage terminal at Washington Terminal.
- Purchase of new buses for local transit systems. Secured over $40 million for statewide program since 1997.
- Champions improvements in Baltimore's airport and marine port:
- Fought for funding of International Pier at Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI).
- Led the fight for federal funds to improve the safety and accessibility of the Port of Baltimore, its anchorages and channels.
- Works to make Maryland's highways and biways safe:
- Secured $1 million for Maryland's aggressive driving campaign.
- Secured $7 million for statewide Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) to expand and improve its technology.
To the Suburban Counties...
Senator Mikulski supports improved transportation for the suburban counties. She has:
- Helps reduce traffic congestion and pollution by supporting expanded mass transit including:
- Expansion of Maryland Rail Commuter (MARC) system to Frederick. Secured $70 million for project.
- Completion of Washington Area Metrorail system and extension of Blue Line from Addison Road to Largo Town Center.
- Construction of a transit center for Silver Spring which will serve the Washington Metro, MARC, Metro buses, Ride-on buses and taxis.
- Works to make Maryland's highways and biways safe:
- Secured funds to upgrade critical highways and roads, including Balt-Wash Parkway, I-270, I-70, Route 32, US 29 and US 50.
- Fought for federal support to begin renovation of the Wilson Bridge.
- Supported the development of Intelligent Vehicle Highway Systems (IVHS) in Montgomery County.
To Western Maryland...
Senator Mikulski works to improve transportation in Western Maryland.
- Supported efforts to have the National Road declared an All-American Road by the Federal Highway Administration.
